Farmers Insurance Open

Jan 24-28, 2019
Torrey Pines Golf Course
Location: La Jolla, California
Established: 1952
Prize fund: $6.7 million

This PGA event brings the best players in golf to the shores of the Pacific Ocean in San Diego every winter. The best of the best will be the center of the attention, as the biggest names in golf shoot for a coveted early-season win.

The Century Club of Farmers Insurance Open is one of the first events of the PGA season, and the venue is one of the finest golf courses in the world.

The event has been played in San Diego since 1952. From 1989 through 2009, it was known as the Buick Invitational. Before Farmers Insurance came on board as sponsor, it temporarily reverted to being called the San Diego Open.

Farmers signed a one-year to sponsor the event. The deal between Farmers and the PGA, which operates the men's golf tour, includes an option that could allow the country's third-largest auto-homeowners insurance provider to sponsor future tournaments.

PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open Golf Courses: Torrey Pines Golf Course, a 36-hole municipal facility north of San Diego in the suburb of La Jolla, is the current site of the PGA Tour. Torrey Pines has hosted the tournament every year since 1968, with rounds split between its North Course and South Course (the South Course always hosts the final round).

2014 Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Winner:

Scott Stallings won his first Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course by just one stroke. Stallings finished -9, placed over K.J. Choi, Jason Day, Graham DeLaet, Marc Leishman and Pat Perez, who all finished -8.

2013 Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Winner:

Tiger Woods started his 2013 PGA season with a victory in the 2013 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Woods delivered a vintage 14-under performance amidst the fog that plagued the event.

2012 Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Winner:

Brandt Snedeker is the winner of 2012 Farmers Insurance Open on Jan. 29, 2012, in La Jolla, Calif. by a dramatic playoff with Kyle Stanley. John Rollins finished in third, two shots behind the leaders.

2011 Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Winner:

Bubba Watson wins the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open. In the final round Watson makes a long birdie putt at the par-5 18th hole to remain two strokes clear of Phil Mickelson who attempts to hole his approach at the same hole for an eagle and the tie. Watson shot a final-round 67 en route to a tournament-best -16. It's his second PGA title. Phil Mickelson placed second at -15. Dustin Johnson and rookie, Jhonattan Vegas tied for third at -13.

2010 Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Winner:

Ben Crane held off Michael Sim for a one-shot victory at the Farmers Insurance Open. The win marked Crane's first since the 2005 U.S. Bank Championship.

Ben Crane finished at 13-under 275 for his third career victory, ending an 0-98 drought that stretches to Milwaukee in the summer of 2005. With this win, Crane is garneted a return trip to the Masters in April and Kapalua next January. He likely will crack the top 60 in the world, which should be enough to put him in the Match Play Championship.

2009 Farmers Insurance Open Tournament Winner:

Nick Watney birdied two of the final three holes to close out a round of 68 and edge John Rollins by one stroke for the win.
